<p><span>Biochar is created</span>&nbsp;from wood and plant&nbsp;matter through a process of super heating, grinding and screening. The result is tiny, highly porous pieces that act like a sponge, soaking up nutrients, water and atmospheric carbon. Biochar is speculated to have been used as a soil supplement thousands of years ago in the Amazon basin, where regions of fertile soil called "Terra Preta'" (dark earth) were created by indigenous people. They witnessed how forests would recover after fires, growing much more vigorously than unburned parts.

BioChar is a soil amendment made from the carbon skeleton of wood, or other organic matter, through the process of super heating. Note: while Active Biochar appears to be charcoal, there is a big difference. Because of the super heating process, Soil Candy Biochar is highly porous and not smoky. Charcoal isn't very porous and is very smoky, which isn't something you want in the soil or around your plants.
